Chocolate Covered Marzipan

chocolate covered marzipan

Here’s one last twist on chocolate-covered candy to round out the week: chocolate covered marzipan balls.

This is so easy it’s silly. Knead marzipan until it’s soft and pliable. Roll into 16 1″ balls. Melt 4 oz of chocolate with a few tablespoons of room temperature orange juice. The added liquid will make for a softer chocolate coating. Never add cold water-based liquid to warm, melted chocolate, or the chocolate will seize up on you, becoming gritty with a powdery (rather than smooth and shiny) exterior. Using toothpicks, dip the marzipan in chocolate to coat. Place on waxed paper and chill to set, and decorate with almond slivers. Serve at room temperature. Yum!

Mmm, marzipan sounds like a good idea! I spent all last evening dipping things in chocolate – a few of my favourites to dip are candied ginger and candied orange peel. Yum! :)

Here’s a question……shouldn’t I be able to make my own marzipan? Does it require ground almonds and sugar of some sort?? I LOVE marzipan!

Absolutely! I’ve been planning on making it for a while, ever since I found a cookbook with instructions as to how to do it. I bet it’s even a billion times better homemade. :)

Yes!! I cannot wait to make this… and it’s silly that I haven’t yet! Thank you!!! Thanks also for the OJ tip.. nice.

You can also use any sort of vegan milk, juice, or liqueur in the same way to produce softer chocolate (and enhance the flavor while you’re at it). Bon appétit!

Delish. I made some chocolate covered almonds the other night that were delightful. There’s also something about the homemade bon-bons and chews that I can’t resist. I like to melt chocolate bars that have fruit or other fun crunchy stuff in them to give the nut dipping a bit more flavor (raspberries are always a welcome addition!).

  5. Making these FOR SURE. Cody LOVES marzipan and I LOVE chocolate so I figure we will devour the entire batch in, oh, 5.2 seconds. Thanks for the recipe!

I’d have to say that chocolate covered peanut butter balls are my favorite because to me chocolate and peanut butter are a combination made in heaven! Too delicious!

My favorite thing to coat with chocolate is cake! Cut cake (pound cake works well) into bite-sized cubes, and dip all sides into chocolate. Let cool, and then eat! Mmm.

I make chocolate covered marzipan every year, it is so simple and delicious. Your balls look great.
